| Malton and Norton Canoe Club is serious about safety, we always take the necessary measures to ensure the safety everyone involved. When becoming a member we require you to disclose any medical implications to help us help you; all information is treated as highly confidential and is stored under the Data Protection Act 1998. |
Club Coaches
- All of our coaches hold paddlesport coaching qualifications issued by the BCU.
- All coaches have successfully completed courses in water based safety and rescue.
- All coaches hold valid (up-to-date) first aid qualifications
- All coaches have been successfully checked with the Criminal Records Bureau
- Most of our coaches have attended a Safeguarding and Protecting Children course
PSE (Personal Safety Equipment)
- All club buoyancy aids are regularly maintained and meet CE EN393 Certification
- All helmets and buoyancy aids are fully adjustable for each and every user
- Helmets are mandatory for all non-adults, always highly recommended
- Throwlines are available and carried when deemed necessary
Training
It's highly likely that during a course members will be given the opportunity to learn safety and rescue techniques to help them and others in the event of an emergency, this is usually:
- Eskimo rescues
- The safe capsize drill
- Swimming to safety
- Correct use of Throwlines
- Safe lifting techniques
- And more...
Other
- The club building always has group first aid equipment accessible
- The club building has been outfitted with electrical safety devices to help prevent electrocution
- Coaches carry first aid kits if deemed necessary
